View larger: Sketch of the XLENT Strategy start page, dated Stockholm 24 January 2011, with green speech bubbles: “XSS can have an English site”, “Satellite site where the start page has a text about the business unit, just like Group's start page”, “There is room for several ‘blocks’ to promote offers, jobs and for example show customer quotes”, “Clicking Group's logo takes you back to the main site”, “Info about Group is always available in the footer.”
  • View larger: 118 100: review of the start page: Screenshot of 118 100's start page from 2008: the blue and orange 118 100 logo, the menu Sök, Branscher, Svar på allt, and a search field headed “Sök nummer och adresser till personer och företag”. Per has underlined the example line below the field in red: “Exempel: Pizzeria Malmö, Hundbutik Stockholm, Åke Olsson Växsjö”.
  • View larger: 118 100: the search field: The same start page with “Pelle” typed into the search field. Per has circled the field and its label in red and written “liten text?” (small text?) in blue below.
  • View larger: 118 100: a company page: Part of a company page. A box of financial information (organization number hidden here) showing turnover 201 tkr, 1 employee and an average monthly salary of 3,000 kr, which Per has underlined with an exclamation mark. Below, a list headed “Andra ord i brancherna” with “felstavning” (misspelling) written in red next to a circled word, and a list of companies other people also looked at – the same Stadium Drottninggatan entry three times in each list.
  • View larger: The 2011 website: overview: Overview: “group” at the top – business idea, management, jobs, contact; “if ‘business idea’ gets too long we could split the page into values and organization”. Below it four sites: strategy stockholm (+ in English), strategy oslo (Norwegian only), business integration and technology, each with services, projects, jobs and contact.
  • View larger: The 2011 website: a services page, annotated: Sketch of a services page for XLENT Business Integration, with speech bubbles: “The page with the business idea can sit at the bottom under services. The left column on the start page is first of all for the business idea”, “The left column is important for navigation. The number of ‘areas’ is in principle unlimited. Subnavigation allowed (no more than 3 levels)”, and “Free space for contact person, banners/teasers. If there is no content, it should be images, or choose a full-width template without the right column. No long texts, only short, clear messages.” A contact box is blurred.
  • View larger: The 2011 website: six page templates: Six wireframe page templates in blue and gray blocks: group start / contact persons, unit start, unit start / wide content, header + sidebar, sidebar with no header, and page with map.
  • View larger: From my 2009 talk: focus to scope: Slide from Per's 2009 XLENT talk: a large arrow through four steps – focus (what is our job?), definition (what do we create?), customer value (what value does it give?) and scope (how do we deliver?) – above a row: set goals and how to measure, define web activities, launch web activities, measure results.

Consultant at XLENT from 2006 to 2010, then hired back as an independent consultant for the strategy and interaction design of the group’s new website (2011).

  • 118 100 (2008): a directory enquiry service – central role in assuring usability and interaction design as the online service was developed. I commissioned the usability tests and mediated between developers and usability consultants. The screenshots below are from my review.
  • Intrum Justitia (2008): feasibility study, web strategy and client-side support for My Money, a site for people in debt – it has its own card.
  • Handelsbanken (2008–2009): pre-study and requirements for a new intranet and the migration from the old one – strategy workshop, interviews, a field study at bank branches and surveys of how staff worked and what they needed. The result: a new information structure, detailed principle sketches, a design grid and a primary persona used to make sure the right priorities were made in structure and design.
  • Sharp Electronics (2008): web strategy adviser, plus interaction design and web development in the open-source tool Drupal
  • ABF (2009): usability and accessibility (WCAG) adviser for a new website
  • XLENT's new website (2011), as an independent consultant: a concept for a group site with satellite sites of their own for the business units – XLENT Strategy in Stockholm and Oslo, XLENT Business Integration and XLENT Technology. Goals and audiences (first of all the recruitment market), structure, a URL strategy for findability, a careers strategy and image guidelines, annotated sketches of the pages and six page templates – presented in February 2011. According to the Internet Archive, the new site launched during 2011 with the concept's structure: a group start page leading to the four units, at the addresses from the URL strategy (xlent.se/strategy-stockholm, /strategy-oslo, /business-integration and /technology).
  • Talks during the XLENT years: “Bygg din webbplats med flit, inte av misstag” (Build your website on purpose, not by accident) at the conference Webbplatser som driver affärer (May 2009); “Long Tail i social media” at an XLENT breakfast seminar (August 2008); “Web trends, social media, viral marketing” (October 2008), on companies' online presence and online marketing, including the story of my critical article on search engine optimization; and “Public Service – introduktion till den sociala webben och morgondagens utmaningar” (December 2009), an introduction to the social web and tomorrow's challenges.
