View larger: Concept sketch of the start page, “sundekonomi” with Intrum Justitia as sender: navigation for money, loans & credit, in debt and blog; the message “Vi hjälper dig ta steget mot en sund ekonomi” (We help you take the step toward a healthy economy); and core sections for money, loans & credit and being in debt, with labels marking each area of the page.
  • View larger: Web strategy overview: A diagram: an end-customer and a potential customer linked through “Information / Collaboration” to a webmaster, who connects to web metrics and evaluations and to the organization. Three numbered steps: 1. Bring motivated users to the website – a single point of entry for advice on debt management. 2. Offer user-centric tools and information that help the end-customer. 3. Respond to user requests, generate content proactively, suggest new content and tools, and feed back to the organization.
  • View larger: Proposed sitemap: Three columns. Prevent debt: household budget, saving money over time, investments such as car and house, insurance, and sudden events like illness, a death in the family, unemployment, bankruptcy or divorce. Prepare for a loan or credit: understanding what a loan is, interpreting conditions, paying the loan, types of loans, and a calculator – what is the real cost of this loan, and how long before I am debt free. When in debt: the process, contacts with authorities, how Intrum can help, and when everything feels hopeless – “there is nothing wrong with you”. Below: a blog commenting on what media and other blogs write.
  • View larger: Wireframe: start page: A labeled wireframe of the start page: logo and tagline, affiliation to Intrum, navigation bar, a large awareness area for brand building, core sections, highlights, user space and footer.
  • View larger: Wireframe: content page: A wireframe of a content page with sub-navigation and an awareness area on the left, the article in the middle and highlights or user content on the right.
  • View larger: Concept: the blog: The blog in the same concept, with categories, popular posts, recent comments and other blogs alongside the posts. A callout shows the post footer: comments, bookmark, send to a friend, permanent link, categories and publishing date.
  • View larger: Roles for running the site: A diagram of the recommended organization: a steering group for business strategy; a site owner and a web editor (editor-in-chief) for operations and site strategy; and support functions – subject area experts, design support, technology support, strategic advisers and user experience support.
  • View larger: Dashboard example: An example dashboard in tables: site usage, popular pages, traffic sources, business intelligence from articles and blog posts about Intrum with an importance rating, search keywords, a content calendar and planned evaluations – a usability review, a survey and a focus group.

Most visitors to Intrum Justitia's Swedish website were people in debt. In 2008 I did the feasibility study for a new site just for them – about preventing debt, preparing for a loan and coping when in debt – and then supported the project until it launched as My Money (mymoney.intrum.se).

  • The feasibility study: a web strategy built on bringing motivated people to one place for advice, offering tools that actually help, and listening and responding – a blog commenting on what media wrote, a calculator for the real cost of a loan and how long until you are debt free, anonymous discussion groups and SMS/e-mail reminders.
  • Site structure, wireframes and concept sketches for the design agency, working name “sundekonomi”.
  • Interaction and information design for sharing the site's short films – send to a friend, embed on your blog, send as MMS. The three films, starring the monkey Alejandro Fuentes Bergström, were made by Saatchi & Saatchi and Verymuchlogo to draw young adults to the site, and won a silver egg in the film category at Guldägget 2009.
  • A recommended organization and steering model for running the site: steering group, site owner, web editor and support functions, with a shared dashboard of statistics, business intelligence and content planning – which became reality.
  • Ongoing client-side support in contacts with the PR agency, design agency and developers; advice when the blog tool was set up; guidelines for working with the site; and help hiring a suitable web editor.
