STIMDI, the Swedish interdisciplinary society for human–computer interaction, has awarded its Grand Prize since 1997 – earlier recipients include Jonas Löwgren, Kia Höök and Jan Gulliksen. I received it on World Usability Day, 10 November 2016, two minutes after stepping off stage from a talk on ethics.

  • The evening was STIMDI's World Usability Day event in Stockholm, themed on sustainability. I had been invited to talk about ethics and the responsibility of UX practitioners – a talk with personal reflections and some criticism of the industry. The talk has its own card, with the recording.
  • The jury's citation: “As a long-standing and appreciated UX practitioner, speaker and podcaster, Per has helped raise awareness of good usability. He has also shared his experience as a mentor in STIMDI's mentoring program. With his background in media and communication science, he has constantly found new ways to communicate UX, entirely in line with STIMDI's ambitions.” (translated from Swedish)
  • The four words “new ways to communicate” went straight to my heart – my whole life has been about learning and never being done with learning.
